Building Trust in Your Brand and Practice by Integrating a Podcast in Your Business Strategy
Are you thinking about integrating a podcast into your wellness business? If so, this is a must-read!
Podcasts are the new radio, and if you love having conversations about health and wellness, it’s a great way to maximize your exposure and connect to your audience on a deeper level.
Podcasts are also gaining popularity with coaches in the digital world, and there's a reason why. This week on Making it Real, we are chatting with David Pérez, Podcast Producer and the host of the Audience Coach podcast, a show that helps coaches and entrepreneurs in the health and wellness industry create audiences for their businesses! This is going to be a very insightful episode where we dive into how wellness practitioners can integrate podcasts into their business to build trust and authority.
If you have been on the fence about starting a podcast, this episode is a must-listen.
The benefits of adding a podcast to your practice are vast, but do they fit your unique goals as a health coach?
There are 2 major benefits of adding a podcast to your practice:
First, it can showcase who you are as a person
And second, it can showcase who you are as a professional
Though there are many other benefits of utilizing podcasts, these are the top two that will allow you to establish a strong connection with your audience as a wellness practitioner. Your audience wants to know who you are and what you offer, and podcasts can be a very personal solution to help you accomplish those things.
David mentions “Every person has a different need - so does this person have the approach I need?” which we find to be a very important question that your audience can answer through listening to your podcast. Solving the needs of your audience is the BEST way to build trust and we all know, trust is arguably the #1 thing that drives sign-ups and a thriving client base.
Is there a right time to start a podcast? And how do you even get started?
“A podcast is like coffee, any time is a good time for a podcast” - David
Like anything related to growing a wellness business, any time is a good time to start. Don’t be fooled by fear, because nothing goes perfect the first time around.
So, if you are considering starting, David suggests to just do it. Building a podcast audience can take a long time (like building an email list or traffic to your website), so the sooner you start, the better. And the best part? You can work out the kinks as you go.
Here is the process David recommends for getting started:
Have the right mindset! It’s important to focus on your audience and be open to listening to their needs so you can find the right topics of conversation. Ask questions and connect with them first, then craft topics around those problems!
Get a nice microphone. Investing in technology is important, the Yeti is a great microphone and you can find it on Amazon for $100.
Create a content calendar! This will help you get ahead, find the right interviewees and know exactly what you want to talk about. It also helps you align your topics of conversation to your promotional periods, which can be a great promotional strategy!
Have a great "podcast hosting service - at Making it Real we use Libsyn.
Add some buffer time between episodes to edit, or hire a production team or a VA! Turning your conversations into marketing materials takes time, so make sure you aren’t pushing yourself too much, too fast. Give yourself some space to edit and promote.
Finding the right guests for your podcast? It’s not as hard as you think!
One of the best things about podcasts is that people are generally receptive to being interviewed, so finding guests doesn’t have to be hard, all you have to do is reach out.
The one thing David recommends is to be picky with your guests. Your podcast content should help your audience somehow, so the expert (or story you are crafting) has to be the right fit for your audience. Sometimes it’s great to come up with a list of questions beforehand that relate to your audience’s pain points and let the conversation naturally solve those problems. Your conversations don’t have to be perfectly crafted, but they should be guided and provide value!
KEY TAKEAWAY (S):
If you are naturally drawn to the idea of having valuable conversations and sharing them with the world, growing a podcast audience is a great way to provide an immense amount of personal value.
We recommend giving this episode a listen to hear about David’s other recommendations for getting started! We promise it won’t disappoint.
